About Rafael Norwood

Rafael Norwood (he, they, él) is one of the MOSAIC Coordinators for the MOSAIC Office at UCCS. Rafael has worked with MOSAIC for two years but has been with UCCS since 2019 in various roles as a student worker, graduate teaching assistant, and other full-time positions. Rafael embodies several identities that have provided crucial framework in empowering and helping students within their own identity development. 

Rafael is a first-generation graduate from the University of Oregon. In 2012, he received his Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Studies with a concentration in Conflict Resolution & Romance Literature and Language (Spanish, Italian, & French). After working for the next 8 years in different higher education institutions around Oregon, Rafael decided to come to UCCS to acquire his master’s degree in Sociology. He received his Master of Arts in Sociology in December 2021 with two graduate certificates in teaching sociology and diversity.

In his spare time, Rafael enjoys running, traveling, game nights, and being a foodie.

Rafael works with students to coordinate identity month and intersectional programming, offers individual and group advising, and leads ongoing education and skill building trainings for the MOSAIC Office.
